LAN in FieldServer

FieldServer can be accessed directly in website by any browser because the components of web-server chip, wireless LAN card (access point function) and web-camera, etc. are communicated by TCP/IP. The LAN is installed to frame inside of FieldServer and connected other devices in wire or wireless. Therefore, FieldServers can be communicated by wireless and web-server to construct a sensing network.

Connect to Internet

The network security is not preferred if FieldServer using global IP to construct the sensing network in wireless. FieldServer is always using NAT function of router as a getaway to divide private IP in each devices for constructing a private network in high security.

VPN  Connection

The private network constructing by FieldServers can not accessed to Internet and the measured data can not shown in www browser. Therefore, FieldServer using port forward function in router and VPN (Virtual Private network) technology is easy to access to Internet. VPN connection is also keep in high security for the sensing network constructed by FieldServer.

Field Server Agent

FieldServer can show the measured data on browser only and can not storage the measured data and images basically. In order to storage the measured data periodically, JAVA program named to field server agent can operate browser automatically instead of labor.  Filed server agent as a web search engine or a web-clawer which likes Google engine, is to search and collect web data and operate camera or other devices based on timer and radiation automatically.  Filed server agent is also powerful for research of active database, sensing grid, and data grid.  Please contact to  fserver@zoushoku.narc.affrc.go.jp, if anyone needs the source code of field server agent for research or business.

Data Collection Services

Because the field server agent is not developed for end-user, the installation and rule changes are not easy for end-user.  There is no document to explain the source codes in detail for field server agent, so end-used have to understand the JAVA source coded. Also, one PC have to always operate to perform field server agent for data collection. This is not preferred for electric saving in end-user. When the PC is operated around FieldServer with a embedded camera for image storage, there is concerned for destroying PC and FieldServer together by larceners. Therefore, it is better to deploy the PC in remote area for data  collection.

Since FieldServer is always online, one PC operating field server agent is enough for data collection in the world and there is no required to prepare the PC by end-users. In the present now, a PC cluster consists of 8 PCs in the Computer Communication Applied Museum (Dennou Museum), Japan, is driving field server agent for data collection in the global deployed FieldServers.  All stored data can be accessed by this Web, and graph and images can be shown by  Data-Viewer.

and including following information.

IP of router (Domain of router in dynamic DNS)
Information of VPN router in detail
Right now, field server agent is corresponding PPTP or Open VPN. If you do not have the VPN router, please use PPTP router such as this example.
Private IP inside the FieldServer
Sensor information and corresponding A/D convert channel

All collected data as common intellectual resources for human will be issued in web in precondition with the exception of manuscript data and patent data in press.  「FiledServer data is common for anyone and welcome to apply any applications」 is a basic policy for FieldServer. Also, please concern with responsibility for data lost by server down.
 

Agent Making Method

Research and development of agent is a very interesting theme in information field. There is two ways to contribute intelligence for sensing network.. One way is integrate the intelligence to firmware of sensing network node, other way is integrate intelligence to operate PC in remote such as in PC cluster at in remote network. Field server agent is the approach to integrate intelligence in remote. This approach is powerful in development stage, because there is just required to renew the functions of sensing network without firmware update. Anyone can make agent by using Windows Script Language (WSH) or JAVA Apple Script. There is more easy way to make agent is using Script Language UWSC in free.
